Artist Statement

Although reverie presents a longedfor escape from reality, this selfcreated fantasy has the ability to hinder due to its inevitable disillusionment. Having previously explored how illusion palliates distress, I have come to realize that these notions cannot exist outside of my own mind, and my faith in them becomes consumptive.

In my work I look to demonstrate the superfluous and restrictive nature of fantasy by presenting outwardly enticing materials and situations. The exaggerated costumes and characterizations allow me to show the contrived nature of selfindulgent fantasy and how overbearing and destructive it becomes.
