Artist Statement

My artwork focuses on accentuating detail, embracing fragility and exploring honesty. Attentiveness to the subtleties of what happens around me and within me as a response is what guides my art. By collecting objects of personal meaning and creating protective spaces for them, I hope to invite awareness for the inherent value and beauty in small things. My work also contemplates the meaning of home through the process of collecting and the practice of collage.

My pieces often begin with a small collection of objects, which prompts me to design a safe space where their fragility, nuance, and complex detail can be noticed and appreciated. Bringing attention to gathered materials is my way of celebrating the raw beauty, intricate texture, and unique color variations in small objects. This allows me to see life through a lens of admiration and poetry while still leaving room for the honest expression of deeply rooted sadness and loneliness.

I use a variety of techniques and media, including weaving, collage, ceramics, and sewing to make things more clearly special and sacred, especially the objects and moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

My mixed-media art pieces include weavings, fashion pieces, ceramic vessels combined with collages of collected materials, and sculptural collages on wood and other fiber-based pieces. My process of collecting and then creating in collaboration with the objects allows me to be transported and become immersed in the exquisite existence of nature and beautifully ephemeral moments.
