Artist Statement:
My artwork is a reflection of my journey through self discovery. Through my use of metaphor and color, I aim to show the different layers of getting to know yourself.
In my work, I use solid color backgrounds to show how I tend to fixate on certain situations to the point where nothing else exists. I use metalwork to show coping mechanisms and the negative things I viewed as permanent and I also include unnatural colors to the subject of my pieces to show the absurdity of each situation.
Creating art serves as a powerful outlet to be able to navigate and articulate my emotions in a way that feels most natural to me. For so much of my life, I’ve mixed up other people's perceptions of me with my own personality . As I've grown and gained a clearer view of these misperceptions, I've felt an urgent need to express these challenges discovering who I am as well as the impact each stage of this process has had on me.
My hope is that viewers will be able to find solace and connection in my art, recognizing fragments of their struggles within it. I strive to create a sense of community and understanding that invites my audience to share in my perspective and find comfort in knowing they are not alone in their own battles. Through my art, I want to bridge the gap between individual experiences, and the shared human condition.
