A Sensitive Development
- How do your emotions speak? -
I create pieces reflecting my emotions and personal experiences. Most of them revolve around childhood. Childhood memories are important to me since they tend to be the source of certain thoughts and feelings. Making these pieces not only acknowledges that emotional lineage but also helps me reason through what I experience as a young adult now. No matter what age you are, emotions are worth listening to. I use a range of media, and each one allows me to explore different aspects of myself. Some emotions speak more eloquently through watercolor, while others may speak better through oil paint. Regarding techniques, I love using many brushstrokes while also having some areas be more indistinct. Balancing these helps draw attention to particular parts of the piece that best emphasize the meaning. My color palette is used to evoke emotions in the viewer and to connect the contexts of the pieces. My process overall consists of sketching the initial idea, somewhat precise planning, the placement phases with the materials, a couple of days-long existential crisis, wrapping it up, and adding little details. My little details are usually callbacks to things I love, like material childhood memories or puns. While walking around, think about your own experiences. What emotions are you feeling right now?
- And what are they saying? -
